Red aval payasam
Payasam is a traditional sweet made in India during festivals.And it is a easy sweet to satisfy all the sweet lovers. There are more than 100 varieties of payasam .It can be made with sugar or Jaggery .The red aval payasam is a mouthwatering sweet.
Ingredients
Red aval( poha)- 1 cup
Sugar- 1/2 cup
Milk 1 cup
Water- 1/2 cup
Cashews -10
Dry grapes -10
Cardamom-3
Ghee-2 tablespoon
Pinch of salt.
Note:you can use white aval instead of red.Jaggery can be used instead of sugar. But Jaggery should be dissolved in water and boiled till sticky and single sting consistency before adding to payasam.
Method
Wash and soak the red aval in water for 15-20 minutes.In a pan add milk and water boil for 3 minutes and add the soaked red aval in the pan.Boil till the aval is completely cooked. Add sugar and stir well till it dissolves. If using jaggery add at this stage. Add water if required .Add a pinch of salt and cardamom and stir well.In a tempering pan add ghee and fry the cashews and dry grapes till golden brown. Pour it over the payasam.The payasam is ready to serve.Try this yummy payasam and treat your family with a mouthwatering sweet.
